The design for Al Sham Bank draws inspiration from the traditional Damascus houses, particularly the central courtyard as a central theme. Adopting the essence of these historical residences, the concept revolves around the integration of a central courtyard within the bank's layout. The courtyard serves as a focal point, fostering a sense of openness, connectivity, and cultural continuity. The project incorporates this element to create a harmonious and functional space. It becomes a dynamic hub, providing a breath of fresh air and natural light to the interior spaces while offering a circulation throughout the bank for both customers and staff. furthermore, the design of the central courtyard integrates a traditional fountain that not only pays homage to Damascus's cultural heritage but also defines the overall layout.

In addition to an inspiration drawn from Al mashrabiya, a distinctive architectural feature prevalent in traditional Middle Eastern design, notably in places like Damascus, these screens are meticulously crafted with geometric patterns, creatively woven into the architectural fabric, serving as facades, partitions, and decorative details. The incorporation of Al Mashrabiya in Al Sham Bank takes on a nuanced approach, featuring four distinct screens tailored to different sections and patterns, balancing transparency and functionality. Furthermore, the strategically placed Mashrabiya screens, serve as modules on internal facades. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, these screens define internal spaces, utilizing natural sunlight to enhance the ambiance. This placement fosters a welcoming environment and contributes to the creation of an open and social workspace, where the play of light and shadow, guided by the Mashrabiya patterns, adds to the overall warmth and functionality of the bank's interior.

In the exterior design of Al Sham Bank, RPA ATELIERS draws inspiration from Damascene stone and intricate patterns, infusing the building with cultural resonance. The facade showcases a harmonious interplay of geometric motifs and traditional designs, replicating the timeless aesthetic found in historic Damascene architecture. The entrance, serving as a focal point, features a meticulously crafted pattern derived from traditional motifs, creating a visually stunning and culturally rich gateway to the bank. A defining element of the exterior is the incorporation of Damascene patterns on the curve of the elevation. This design choice adds a dynamic and fluid dimension to the building, seamlessly integrating traditional motifs into modern architectural lines. The result is a facade that pays homage to Damascus's cultural heritage and presents a contemporary interpretation of its rich history.

‘’This project stands as a testament to our dedication to cultural preservation, sustainable practices, and cutting-edge design, setting a new standard for intelligent and inspiring architecture."

Bilal Baghdadi - Founder, CEO

The feature wall of Al Sham Bank on the main elevation, designed through computational methods inspired by Damascene stone patterns, stands as an innovative masterpiece. This fusion of technology and tradition not only creates a visually striking and symbolic element but also underlines the bank's dedication to both heritage and modernity. The interplay of light and shadow on the intricate patterns enhances the facade's dynamic and inviting character and adds a layer of depth to the design. Complementing this, a water pond in proximity reflects the bank's mass, creating a serene and harmonious ambiance that further elevates the overall aesthetic appeal of the exterior.

The sustainability features in the design of Al Sham Bank are prominently manifested through thoughtful considerations that enhance both environmental consciousness and occupant well-being. The central courtyard serves as a sustainable hub, fostering a social workspace, encouraging collaboration, connection among occupants, and enhancing the accessibility and visibility of different banking services. The use of eco-friendly materials further underscores the bank's commitment to sustainability. Kerto LVL wood, known for its renewable and sustainable properties, is integrated into the design, contributing to the overall eco-conscious construction. Low-emissivity (low-e) double glass windows enhance energy efficiency by minimizing heat transfer, creating a more thermally stable interior environment. Additionally, light limestone, chosen for its durability and low environmental impact, serves as a sustainable cladding material, ensuring longevity and reduced environmental footprint.

The open design of the courtyard provide abundant natural lighting and ventilation to the interior spaces, it allows for the free flow of air, acting as a lung for the entire structure. As air circulates through the courtyard, it creates a natural ventilation system that helps regulate indoor air quality and temperature. It also allows rainwater to be efficiently collected and channeled into storage systems. This harvested rainwater can then be repurposed for various non-potable applications within the bank.
Al Sham Bank integrates smart technologies for enhanced functionality and security. A control network manages access control, ensuring secure entry. Smart blinds optimize natural light, minimizing energy usage. A computing cloud system supports various technological applications, while adaptive lighting enhances energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
